The Old Pearl Diver

In Souq Waqif I got to talk with “The Old Pearl Diver”. He is one of the only pearl divers left in Qatar, and he used to be a bodybuilder as well. I asked him for an interview.

“I will tell you about pearl diving and pearl trading from the time before the oil discoveries. Back then we had no other income. We had to depend on ourselves. Pearl divers went out for three to four months on a big boat called a dhow."

It was so fascinating. I couldn’t believe I had met a real pearl diver!
